Murcia Online Reservation
A long history of conflicts and border skirmishes has modelled the
cultures and the appearance of this land. Defensive watchtowers, castles,
remains of walls, renaissance mansions, and manor houses all reflect
the vast history of this valley.
Lorca the capital of the district is sometimes called the city of monuments
or the city of a hundred coats of arms. This is also the route for craftsmanship,
with more than forty looms and potteries.
The area is crossed by the motorway linking Murcia takes us into Alhama
a town that Romans and Arabs alike ssocieted with the hot springs that
emerge from the mountains nearby.
As a witness to this are ruins of the Roman baths by the church of
San Lázaro. Above a rocky crag overlooking the town are the remains
of the arab castle erected in the 12th century Along our walk throught
the town we encounter surprisingly luminous colours, mainly reds, violets,
ochres and blues ob the facades of the old mansions, a typical architectural
feature all along the Mediterranean coast.
