The Saltador Mill
Murcia Online Reservation
Seven Kilometres from Aguilas as we approach the town by the motorway
we find on the right the area known by local folk as el Saltaor. This
is an old swivel mill whose mill-wheels were turned by the force of
the water which then flowed constantly down the Charcón valley.
This is situated opposite the Pila del Portajo in front of the aqueduct
which Carlos III ordered to be built.
On the palaque which commemorates its opening you can read San Andrés
Mill Leap, 16 metres and 40 centimetres high. Year of 1900 The building
which held the mill wheels is a great two storey shed. A project is
gradually being carried out to restore the building and its machinery,
the mill pool and the leap and also to clear the surrounding grounds.
