Both Taperia and its perpendicular plateria are streets tht reflect
the social life of the city. From plaza de la cruz to plaza de Santo
Domingo from Gran Via to almost the calle de Correos in fact not a single
street but rather a group formed by Ceballos, Pintor Villacis, isodoro
de la Cierva and Alejandro Seiquer street.
Around these revolves the social and commercial present and past of
most of Murcia the Centre. These streets have witnessed the old guild
structure and are today the in place to meet in old times this group
of streets was the main site for economic and commercial transactions.
Walking towards the river the visitor will encounter the glorieta de
España always brimming with life, and covered in a very especial
light.
The City hall lies at its centre, with its colourful façade,
next to the esplanade the building of the old Paris then Universal and
finally Victoria Hotel. The River Segura is crossed by four bridges
and among them the Puente Viejo a necessary stop on our way to the charming
Barrio of el Carmen with a life of its own almost entirely detached
from the other side of the river.
It we keep going along the Esplanade and the Victoria hotel we will
soon arrive at the Palace of el Almudí, rebuilt in 1628 and situated
facing the parade of el Malecón. This parade built in the XVI
century penetrates onto the huerta as the last sign of the respect of
the city for the ancient communion between Murcia and its surrounding
huerta.
