Opened in 1969 it holds most of the works of the famous Murcian sculptor,
Francisco Salzillo, the most remarkable representative of 17th century
religious sculpture.
Original sketches and all 556 figures of the Nativity scene carved
by Salzillo and his aides by order of Jesualdo Riquelme in 1727 and
considered full precursors of Nativity scene artistic traditions in
Murcia.
In an adjacent chapel, the famous sculptures used in Holy Week processions
on Holy Fraday such as La Caida, La Oración del Huerto, La Verónica,
San Juan, La Dolorosa, El beso de Judas, La Santa Cena and the Cristo
de la Columna all of them made between 1752 and 1778.
