San Pedro del Pinatar Salt Flats
Murcia Online Reservation
Difficulty None
Duration 2 hours
Recommendations:
This nature reserve is a protected area and its ecosystem is very fragile.
For this reason it is most important that only the indicated paths are
used and that visitors do not walk in unauthorised areas. Bird watchers
will do best bringing their binoculars.
Description:
There are two possible itineraries. The first starts from the car park
next to the road that runs from San Pedro del Pinatar to the port. In
the car park there is an information centre where you can get maps and
information about the local flora and fauna. This route is well signposted
and borders a lake and a fauna reserve right down to the beach.
Walking north the path takes you through an area of sand dunes, passes
by a watch tower and after bordering a small area of pine trees arrives
once again at the road and the car park.
The second option allows you to visit the south part of the salt flats
and the encañizadas of the Mar Menor. This walk starts from the
windmill La Ezequiela which can be reached by car by following a dirt
track separates the salt flats from the lake and starts from the Quintin
windmill. From La Exequiela, a path borders the salt flats and takes
you to the Punta de Algas Beach in La Llana.
