Aguilas Craftwork
Aguilas has preserved some of the most deeply rooted and traditional
crafts. Allow us to beging with esparto grass.
The cordeleros, ropemakers, weave the bundles of soaked esparto to
obtain very tough cords and ropes. The esparto has been soaked in seawater
and dried in the sun for days before this, to allow for easier handling.
This is the last trace of a craft established here since Iberian times.
Wine coopering is also still carried out in Aguilas. Finally at the
bay ot el hornillo is a small shipyard where boats are built mainly
for coastal fishing and other of vesseld of different draughts.
