Bullas
About 3kms away towards Murcia a new road takes us to the emblaze de
la cierva frequented by fishermen in search of trout. We may now follow
the forest trail, either by car or better still ob bicycle up to Fuente
Caputa. This is quite an unusual spot for this barren area, with a series
of pools eroded in the rock by the water; an ideal place for a superb
summer bathe.
Now we continue towards bullas a wine producing area rich in aromatic
reds. And fresh fruity roses, like those produced at the cooperative
del rosario. In the old quarter is the church of el rosario and the
casa de la cultura taking up the old mansion of los melgares. Next to
it a narrow alley gives way to a district where all the houses are painted
in ochre. Red, and blue.
Near bullas at the bottom of the sierra del castellar the waters of
the river mula from a series of small cascades among reeds and poplars
a track lies alongside. There is an interesting cycling route around
the wine valley of aceniche, surrounded by the thick pine forests in
the sierras of lavia and cambron. And between bullas and caravaca the
old railway line offers the choice of a pleasant mountain bike trail.
20kms long. Again on the main road, we ascend the carrascalejo mountain
pass; this is a very well known spot in the region because of the rose
wine produced in the neoclassical palace of Carrascalejo.
