Cartagena Festivities
Among all variations in the fiestas within the city and its surrounding
area, the Carnival in February with its musical groups and all their
colour and costumes is the most outstanding.
After the fun Cartagena prepares its self with devotion for the celebration
of the holy Week with the regiments and brotherhoods always the friendly
confrontation between Californios and Marrajos, parading with perfect
order.
Special mention must be made to the arly morning parade on Good Friday,
called the Encuentro where the statues of Jesus de Nazareth and the
Virgin Mary stage their encuentro in Lago suare from then on following
the Via Crucis through the city centre.
In the last week of September the Fiestas de Cartagineses y Romanos
is held when the city recalls the disembarkation of Scipio and the capture
of the city.
