Lorca Castle of Xiquena

About 20 kms from Lorca are the ruins of the Castle of Xiquena, outlined on a hilltop. The Castle placed as it was amidst Islamic, jewish and Christian land, was the site used to serve the sentences imposed to Muslims, jews and Christians.

After the conquest of Granada the castle was governed by the marquis of los Vélez. Nearby is the Castle of Tiriezar and close to the village of La Parroquis are the Baños Termales de la Fuensanta.

Along this route in the surroundings of Lorca and of special interest to nature lovers are the reservoirs of Valdeinfierno and Puentes as well as the Vale of Lorca with the rural villages of La paca, Avilés and Coy.
