Lorca Traditions
There is a great wealth in textiles and weaving in Lorca and the surroundings
area. There are altogether 12 looms in the city and the rural districts
of Coy and La Paca.
The most characteristic of all these products are no doubt the jarapas
a sort of dyed carpet with swatches of cotton cloth woven into it. Also
carpets and bedspreads are mede.
Around the outskirts of the city ten pottery workshops can be found.
The famous jarra de novia originates from here besides all kinds of
glassworks decorated with floral and natural motifs.
Embroidery is the other great example of local craftwork. This is almost
always done in connection with the Holy Week processions.
