Mazarron Monuments
Murcia Online Reservation
The town of mazarrón some 3 km distant from the coast still
shows traces of an urban settlement whose development was clearly influenced
by the prosperity of its mining industry.
The remains of drop hammers are still here on the slopes of the hills
of Los Perules of San Cristobal.
The streets of mazarron display some interesting monuments; among them
the town hall in a modernist style a clear signal of the early years
of splendour at the beginning of 20th century.
The town hall boasts of a fine assembly room and next to this building
the distinctive Antiguo Ateneo Cultural built around the same time.
Continuing our route we find the Church of San Andrés from the
16th century, behind the town hall with a beautiful Mudejar panelling.
Very close is the convent of la Purisima the patron saint of the town.
We may conclude our visit at the ruins of the Castle of los Velez.
