Mazarron Resort
On leaving Cartagena towards Mazarrón the visitor follows the
coastline along spectacular cliffs and rocky formations from the beach
of Portus, where nudism can be practised to Cabo Tiñoso.
From this point onwards which belongs to the city of Cartagena we enter
the bay itself, with its centre taken up by the town of Mazarrón.
The coast here is rather rough and full of interesting underwater reefs
on a rocky seabed. There is an impressive panoramic view of all the
coast from Cabo Tiñoso and specially the unspoilt beaches of
Cala Abierta and Cala Cerrada from here.
We may reach the Azohía an area of the seaboard where expert
fishermen practice the ancient art of the pesca con almadraba. Basically
tunny, bonito and milt are the produce of work these men carry out from
February until well into July.
The almadraba is a remarkable fishing technique based on drawing the
fish into what is known as a cuadro or pen where they are enclosed and
then gaffed and finally lifted into boats where the fish are loaded.
Between the Azohia and Puerto de Mazarrón manu sandy beaches
and resorts can be found such as Isla Plana.
If we leave the bay of Mazarrón in the direction of the coast
of Aguilas a very interesting seashore can be found such as Puntas de
Calnegre. Its named like this due to the dark colour of the rocks. Besides
Cape Cope, Puntas de Calnegre is a Regional Park since 1972, this is
one of the loneliest spots on the coast with its clean sandy beaches
and clear waters. The outline reaches the sea in sharp cliffs, among
which are the gorgeous coves Baño de las Mujeres, Siscal and
Cala Honda.
