Moratalla

After Caravaca, the landscape is transformed into a series of mountain ranges, valleys, riverbeds, and plains which hold one of the best preserved ecosystems in Murcia. The choice of route or activity is very diverse.

The road leading to puebla de don fadrique takes us to the village of Inazarea where we may start our climb to the highest peak in the region. Revolcadores, we may also decide to continue our route to Moratalla a rural enclave with a particularly charming old quarter. During the fiesta of the Cristo del Rayo in july several heifers are set free in the streets. You may try the typical dishes of the area, like migas made with flour and eaten with pork, niscalos and if during the season some marzipan.

Moratalla also has remains of the castle erected by the order of Santiago in the 15th century, a Torre del homenaje and the church of la sunción with renaissance and baroque features.

For those interested in mountain bikes, trekking clinbing and for all nature lovers, there is an interesting choice. For cyclists, the attractive dry riverbed of la Rogativa, the valley of Benamor or along the road, the routes to el Sabinar and to the upper rural districts of Zaen, Bajil, Mazuza and benizar Walkers have a wide choice like the trails along the thick forest of the sierra del cerezo, the somogil area or the hamlet of bagil. The climb to the sierra de la muela is also particularly advisable.
