Mula

Along Murcia Andalucia motorway the road to Mula signals the entrance to the northwest. We reach our first destination Mula after crossing the stunning lunar landscape of white eroded land which then gives way to the vast irrigated fields already in the vicinity of Mula. The town is dominated by the magnificent castle of los velez, to whose marquisate the town was entrusted. The castle is one of the best preserved fortresses in the region. You may obtain the key at the town hall.

The old quarter has been awarded the distinction of Conjunto historico artisitico and is crowded together around the main square. Here are the church of san Miguel and the torre del reloj. Along the alleys in the old quarter lies the cigarralejo museum taking up the baroque mansion of the marquis de mena Hermosa.

The entire museum is devoted to Iberian art with a magnificent collection from the archaeological excavations at the necropolis of Cigarralejo. Nearby the church of Santo Domingo with its baroque interior and renaissance façade.
